HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – June 2017 –Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation (INTUITIVE) is pleased to announce a partnership with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Education Foundation toward establishing a state-of-the-art planetarium at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. The current Spacedome/IMAX theater will be converted and modernized to give the Rocket City even more opportunities to reach for the stars.
“We are excited about this collaboration with the foundation and USSRC and look forward to working with them over the next few years,” stated Harold Brewer, president of INTUITIVE. “The new planetarium will be a one-of-kind asset to our community, as well as a spark to ignite a sense of space exploration adventure in our young people.” In addition to funding, INTUITIVE will provide design and engineering expertise throughout the renovation process. The new planetarium is scheduled to open in 2019.
“The foundation is deeply grateful for transformative gifts and hands-on partnerships. Intuitive Research and Technology has made a thoughtful commitment to elevate and support learning through visually ‘Wow!’environments,” acknowledged Holly Ralston, executive director of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Education Foundation. The U.S. Space & Rocket Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization raising funds and awareness to support events, programs, facilities and overall growth of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and Space Camp.
With this partnership, INTUITIVE will also officially be the lead sponsor of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s 50th anniversary celebration of the Apollo 11 lunar landing. “It is an honor to sponsor the 50th anniversary of man on the moon,” said Brewer. “As we celebrate this defining moment in American history, I hope it inspires our next generation to achieve great things, just as it inspired me.”
The Apollo celebration will take place throughout July 2019 and salute the countless engineers, scientists and technicians who, along with astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins, executed the stellar achievement of the 20th century: landing man on the moon. Leading up to the 50th anniversary, INTUITIVE will increase community outreach about the historic event and its significance to Huntsville and the surrounding area.
